Robots Could Transform Home Care

NAHC Report, June 15

Home health jobs are among the toughest in the United States to fill. There is a workforce crisis in home care and hospice and while NAHC is working hard to help solve it, technology will inevitably play a big role in any solution to the problem – as it increasingly does in every part of our society and economy.

One example of a possible technological solution is Rudy, a robot designed to help the elderly and disabled maintain their independence. Rudy is “a smiling character the size of a 10-year-old with arms, wheels and a screen on its chest — delivers medication reminders and carries things, while allowing doctors and caregivers to check in, conduct visits and operate it remotely.” The robot can also call for help, play games, and socially interact with humans.
