Representative Mike Rohrkaste (R – Neenah) announced this month he will not be seeking reelection in 2020. Rohrkaste has served on the powerful Joint Committee on Finance since 2017 and was first elected to the Assembly in 2014.

According to news reports, Rohrkaste is working for a non-profit organization helping individuals with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Rohrkaste told reporters that part of his new position involves fundraising for the non-profit and he did not want to fundraise for the non-profit and also fundraise as an Assembly candidate. “It would just be awkward,” he said.

The seat is considered a Republican seat, with Rohrkaste winning with over 55% of the vote in 2018. As of yet, no Republican or Democratic candidates have announced their intent to run for the vacancy in 2020.
